Cost, Payment & Ordering

How much does it cost?

Each trail costs a total of $55 per team (includes GST), no matter how many members your team has.

How do I pay?

Payment must be made at the time of booking your trail. We accept PayPal and all major credit/debit cards.

Can I order more than one trail?

If you are a group of friends looking to split into 2 or more teams to compete against each other you simply need to order the trails separately, with different user names, passwords and email addresses.

If you are one team and want to order 2 different trails then you can keep the same user name, password and email address. You just need to order them one at a time – your details will be stored after the first order so it won’t take you long.

Can I order multiple trails for a Corporate or team building day?

If you want to order multiple trails for Corporate team-building days we would like to make things easier by doing the hard work for you. You will still only be charged the normal price per team but to avoid any confusion and to keep your order secure we will co-ordinate with you to set up the required number of teams and send you one invoice for the total. We will also customise the team names etc. for your day.

For corporate orders please use the ‘Contact us’ page and we will call you to arrange everything.

How to Play

When can I play my Trixity Trail?

You can take the challenge as soon as you receive your welcome email and instructions, which are sent out as soon as your payment is verified. You can also choose to leave it for a week, a few months – or as long as you like really – it won’t expire …. but it may get tougher!

Why do I have to play at the specific time stated in the trail?

Each trail will have times between which you should start; this is to ensure any buildings you have to enter are open when you are completing your trail. These times are only a guide; we recommended your team starts well ahead of the latest start time to ensure you are able to take your time, fit in breaks where necessary (you can always stop the clock) and to give yourselves ample time to solve the clues. You can check out the previous times for the trail you’re planning to undertake on the leaderboard page to see how others have done.

Does anyone accompany us on the Trail or meet us along the way?

No – you are on your own. The trail is designed for you to solve the clues and enjoy the sights on your own/within your group.

How do I receive the first clue?

Upon purchasing your trail, you will be sent an email with your user id, detailed instructions and the start location. On the day of your trail go to that location, log-in to your account and select the ‘GET STARTED’ button. You will be sent your first clue and the timer will commence.

How long does it take to receive a reply to my answer?

The only restriction is your internet connection to our website, responses should be instantaneous.

What happens if we get stuck on a question?

There are 3 types of assistance available – Help, Hint and Skip:

‘HELP’ …. helps guide you to the correct location.

‘HINT’ …. provides a hint to assist in solving the clue.

‘SKIP’ …. whilst we make every effort to ensure our trails are fully available on the day, we cannot foresee every eventuality such as, road closures, emergency situations, special events, etc. If one of these unavoidable events occur, you may submit the word ‘Skip’ as your answer and you will be sent the next clue.

We reserve the right to remove a team from the leaderboard if they have been found using SKIP as their ‘get-out-of-jail-free-card’ …. we’ll be watching. 🙂

When completing the trail can we play along on more than one device?

No, please keep to one device unless you have battery issues (see ‘Smartphone/Device’ section of FAQs).

If you try to log in with multiple devices the system will ‘log out’ the previous device. You may use any device i.e. it doesn’t need to be the one you ordered with – but you can only log into your account as one ‘user’.

Can I take a break on the trail?

You can take a break at any time throughout the trail. When you submit the correct answer, the timer will stop and will not start again until you request the ‘NEXT CLUE’. This means that if you want to stop at any time for a toilet break, snack or photo opportunity, you won’t be penalised – just don’t request the ‘NEXT CLUE’ until you are ready.

Competing as Teams

We are competing as teams, what do I need to know?

If you are a group of friends looking to split into 2 or more teams to compete against each other you simply need to order the trails separately, with different user names, passwords and email addresses. On the day, simply stagger your start times and then check out the leaderboard at the end to see who has won.

Can I order multiple trails for a Corporate or team building day?

If you want to order multiple trails for Corporate team-building days we would like to make things easier by doing the hard work for you. If we enter multiple teams to play, will we end up following each other around the trail?

Yes, our trails always follow the same route unless we amend them from time-to-time. We recommend staggering the start times between teams

Can I add another team once I’ve signed up?

Yes, just go online and purchase the same trail with another user’s details. They will be sent the same instructions as you. Just go to the start location on the day you choose and stagger your start times.

Smartphone/device

Will my device work with Trixity?

As long as your smartphone/device has the ability to connect to the internet then you will be fine. You do NOT need to download an App or have any specialised software/hardware.

What if my battery runs out?

We recommend that you ensure your device is well charged before setting off. If you are getting low on charge, answer the question you are currently on, do not select ‘NEXT CLUE’ and log out of the trail. Then you may log in using the same user id and password on another device.

Alternatively, stop the clock on the next available answer before running out of charge. Submit the correct answer without selecting ‘NEXT CLUE’, the timer will stop and will not start again until you request the ‘NEXT CLUE’. Go away, charge your device, return once done and select ‘NEXT CLUE’. This may be that day, week(s) or month(s) later – there is no time limit as long as you do not select the next clue the clock will be stopped.

Will I run up a big phone bill on the trail?

We only send and receive small amounts of text to/from our customers, but you could be using your maps and/or other facilities to help solve clues. The only way we could see a significant bill is if your phone plan is from outside Australia, and you were being charged ‘Data Roaming’ costs.  If you spend 2-3 hours under these circumstances you could end up with a big bill …. please check with your provider if you’re not sure, we don’t accept liability for your phone charges!

Will there be Wi-Fi?

Some cities, in which our trails are based, do offer free city-centre Wi-Fi and we have also seen wi-fi which is offered through retailers …. which usually want you to purchase something to receive the password. We always used 3G/4G when setting up and testing the trails and have never had any issues so we don’t believe Wi-Fi is necessary.

When completing the trail can we play along on more than one device?

No, please keep to one device unless you have battery issues. If you try to log in with multiple devices the system will ‘log out’ the previous device. You may use any device i.e. it doesn’t need to be the one you ordered with – but you can only log into your account as one ‘user’.

Difficulty

Which trail should I choose?

All the trails are designed the same, namely – solve a series of challenging clues that guide you around the most beautiful cities of Australia, whilst seeing major attractions and a side to the city that you might not normally see. Read the descriptions for each trail for the City you live in, work in or play in, and choose the one that interests you. If you enjoy the trail you can always come back and purchase the other trail(s) in the same city or others if you plan to travel to other cities where our trails can be found.

Will I be able to solve the clues if I’m not from the City I choose to do the trail in?

Absolutely, in fact one of our aims is to introduce you to the city you may only be visiting for a short time. Just ensure you have a local map or fully charged smartphone/device and you’ll be fine.

Will I be able to solve the clues if English is not my first language?

This will obviously depend on your level of English but as some clues are cryptic it may make life a little more difficult.

What to take with me / Health & Safety

What do I need to take with me on the trail?

You will need a (fully-charged) smartphone/device for interaction with our website for the clues. Your phone can also provide you with maps and the internet for assistance. Consider your clothing choices dependent on the weather and sun protection is advised even when it’s not obvious. You will likely be in the area of shops/cafes but we recommend you take water with you.

Do all your trails have refreshment areas for breaks or toilet facilities for comfort stops?

When creating each trail, we have made every effort to pass by public toilets, places to eat and places where you can get a glass of your favourite drink. You won’t be out in the woods or anything so you’ll never be too far from refreshments but go prepared anyway.

What should I be aware of?

You will be walking around the streets of a city, so please be aware of the traffic at all times, use pedestrian crossings wherever possible – we will not be guiding you into dangerous situations but obviously you could stray from our intended route, so please be careful out there.

What should I wear or take with me?

The Sun in Australia can be fierce – consider your clothing choices depending on the weather and sun protection is advised even when it’s not obvious. Make sure you have sunscreen on (and with you), wear a hat and take water even though you will likely be in the area of shops/cafes.

How long will the trail take?

Each of our trails is set out to be finished in 2-3 hours, however this obviously depends on clue-solving and how fast you walk. In the Summer, at certain times of the day this could be more of a physical exertion than at other times, so please make use of your ability to stop the clock and take a break if you need to.

Expiry

Does my trail have an expiry date?

No, you can complete the trail on the day of purchase or at any time in the future; there is no expiry date.

Is there a time limit to complete my trail?

No, take as long as you like (or need), there is no time limit unless of course you are competing to get yourself on the leaderboard. If you get tired come back another day (you can always stop the clock) and pick up right where you left off. If you have battery issues, stop the clock on the next available answer before running out of charge.

To stop the clock, submit your answer but DO NOT select the ‘NEXT CLUE’. Go away, return on any future date, log in and request the ‘NEXT CLUE’.

Eligibilty

Are the trails suitable for children?

You must be an adult to purchase the trail although children may accompany adults. Be aware there are 2-3 hours of walking involved and young children can get bored easily. There are plenty of opportunities to take breaks along the trails and you don’t need to complete it all on the same day (See ‘Expiry’ section of FAQs). We have aimed the questions at teenagers/adults but younger children should still enjoy themselves.

Accessibility

Are the trails wheelchair accessible?

We aim to be accessible, however, not all our trails currently are. Accessibility for each trail has been noted in the ‘Duration’ section when you select a trail to purchase. To make trails as inclusive as possible – where the trail is not fully accessible, able-bodied participants may complete the final part of the clue as the answer is not far from the last accessibility point, but wheelchair users, or parents with prams/buggies, can still complete 90%+ of the trail and will never be left far behind.

Teams without an able-bodied participant may use the assistance of ‘Skip’ as discussed in the ‘What happens if we get stuck on a question’ FAQ. You may submit the word ‘Skip’ as your answer and you will be sent the next clue. No time penalty is incurred for using ‘Skip’.

Miscellaneous

Are you paid by any of the establishments we pass, or visit on the trail?

No. We have simply chosen places that we find interesting …. and hope you do too.
